Anyone is a friend
|
Someone you grew up near. Someone you met at school. Someone you met at work. Your family. Your relatives. God. A young person running along the road. That older person about to cross the street. Anyone. They are friends. Or if you haven't met them yet, they could be friends. Nowadays we're teaching our children be so careful in the world, to not talk to strangers, to not look up, to question everything. Trust is being lost somewhere along the way. It's too bad. How can we find friends if we're not willing to be one? Good brings good. You have to look up and be a friend to find one. Recently I asked my friends at Opportunity Village what they think about friendship. One said, "friendship is important to me because I like people around me. I like people to visit with, share problems with. I always like to make new friends." Another told me, "I like friends to play card games and play board games. I like friends that tease and tell funny jokes and laugh with. I like friends to share their feelings with them and talk to them about their feelings." In the Holy Bible, God says "you shall treat the alien who resides with you no differently than the natives born among you..." Anyone is a potential friend to you. More importantly, you are a potential friend to anyone. Next time you go out into the world, look up, be trusting, be a friend. That way there's a much better chance the world will be a better place. Anyone is a friend. |
