Music is the backdrop
|
Leaves are falling; there's a chill in the wind. The end of the year is approaching. Time to reflect. When the new year comes around, warmth returns, tempo picks up, and our thoughts are on what's ahead. It's a cycle. A lot like music. Music is listening to the cycle, the rhythm, the beat behind everything. A friend of mine at Opportunity Village describes music like this: "I do like music a lot and I listen to music on the radio sometimes. I am in the signing choir and I sing lots of songs in choir. I am in Creative Dance and I like to dance with music. I do enjoy music and music makes me feel happy. I like country music. I used to play the trombone and the saxophone long time ago. I go and listen to music in the concert." In Longfellow's poem "The Bells of San Blas" he hears it too: "O bells of San Blas, in vain ye call back the past again! ...the world rolls into light; it is daybreak everywhere." Whether you play music or listen to it, it's all around us. It's on the radio, on CDs, on tapes, on records. It's in our minds because when we hear it we go places in our minds, back to a special memory. Even when we turn it off, it stays on in the rustle of the trees, the hum of cars going by, waves on the shore, or day turning to night turning to day again. Music is life's backdrop. Sit back and enjoy |
