It Could Be Worse

Don't take good things for granted. Sometimes that isn't powerful enough. Another, more powerful way to look at it is that things could be worse. When you're feeling down, think how things could be worse. You'll soon be seeing the good more without even trying.

I asked a friend at Opportunity Village what makes them happy. Then I asked what life would be like without it. Here's what they said: "If I didn't have any friends and I would feel lonely, sad, and it would also be boring if I didn't have any friends. I'm glad that I have a lot of friends to be with and be around with friends."

In his book Where Did Everybody Go?, Molloy says, "I looked on him as a shiftless moocher with a filthy coat, three-day whiskers and a monumental hangover. A lowlife. A derelict. I saw myself as a regular citizen, bathed and shaved... A parallel came to mind... and I winced when I reflected that the good-for-nothing out there and I were really fellow travelers..."

Yes, things could be a lot worse. Remember that when you're down. Not only that, but things can only get better. In fact, the only way to know good is to know bad. Count your blessings.
