Amazing and True

Time after time we bury our heads in books, movies, and music that takes us far away from reality. Fantasy, science fiction, and things imagined intrigue us, astonish us. These are places so wonderful that they must be made up to be attained.
It isn't like that at all. Yes, TV and radio seem to focus on the bad news that's out there in the real world. But the real world is anything but bad. It is so good, so very good, if you'll only take the time to look at it instead of the media showing you what it wants you to see. I asked a friend at Opportunity Village what amazes her. She says, "I do have some facts that I want to tell you about elephants. Elephants are the only animals that have four knees... If you look at a elephant closely you can see that all their legs bend in the same direction..." Moore says in his book The Pocket Guide to Astronomy, "The Moon is officially ranked as the Earth's satellite but, since it is relatively large and massive, ...it may better be regarded as a companion planet... Finally there is Pluto, a body that is certainly much smaller than the Earth and may not be a true planet." Next time you sit down to watch TV or flick on the radio, turn them off. Look again, amazing things are just beyond your window. |
