Art for the Heart
| We live in a modern world. Numbers are all important. You want to be exact. In that type of
world, people think there's a right answer and a wrong answer for things. Science is so
important. Being exact is so important. Especially now, in this modern world, we need to remember art. Art is the other side of life - the not exact part of life. And really the more important side of life. Life cannot be exact - just as every snowflake is different and every person is different, life is variety. Art is more like life than science. Here's what my mentally handicapped friends from Opportunity Village said when I asked them about their favorite kind of art: "I like to read books. I think that books are fun to read." "My favorite kind of art is music. I enjoy singing in the choir at the Village." In his book, "The Agony and the Ecstasy", Stone said about the famous sculptor Michelangelo: "To create in white marble more glorious figures than had ever been seen on earth or in heaven, to express through them universal truths, this was the payment, the glory of the artist." "Man passes. Only works of art are immortal." Don't forget about the inexact side of life. Don't forget about the bigger part of life. It's Art. It's good for the heart. |
