At this time of year we need to slow down, sit down, take time to remember...

THE GIFT

Her eyes opened
She approached the top of the stairs
There are laughs
Something good at the bottom of the stairs

She descends toward the activity
She hears laughs
She sees smiles
There is happiness here

The clock: 6 o'clock in the morning
The calendar: end of the year
It's not too early to get up
It's not too late to celebrate

She approaches the gifts
She gets on her knees
She looks at her name written on a box
She opens it

What is inside?
She is 14 years old
For her it is a toy
The future is in the box

What is inside?
She is forty-four years old
For her it is something practical
Now is in the box

What is inside?
She is 80 years old
For her it's a souvenir
The past is in the box

For each the box contains a gift
For the girl: the when
For the adult: the what
For the aged: the why

We need to open our gifts
At no matter what stage in life
Don't forget the smiles
Never forget how to make someone smile
